Edtrek in Holt has seen increasing graduation rates in the past few years. The students are determined to receive the best education they can, according to Center Director Connie Ragnone. Edtrek is the alternative high school in Holt for students who desire more hands-on learning.

There's a school in town that's designed specifically for high school dropouts - to get them back in the classroom and get them a high school diploma. That school is FAM Academy of Detroit, which caters dropouts only, ages 14-19.

Students at Fusion Academy of Michigan are encouraged to pursue their dreams.
"Having something like this is a blessing," said Dazmon, who wants to be a clinical psychologist. "I want to help people who are dealing with mental illnesses, so I can be that vessel they can come talk to instead of running away from their problems like I did."
Center director Erica Freeman-Jones said: "The students are not judged here. We're like family."

State superintendent Michael Flanagan got an eyeful when he spent the afternoon at Waverly on Feb. 1. He shook teacher Kysha Crenshaw's hand after watching an effective interactive lesson in her classroom. Then it was on to Waverly's alternative ed Ombudsman Program in which high school students mix work done on computers with small group lessons led by teachers.
